Hi Great site very interesting particularly for me the information you have posted on the crew of the tank C1 Champagne at Courcelette relating to three Woking men. I am about to write an article on the towns war memorial for our local newspapaer and was intrigued that Horace Brotherwood is not listed. Its not the first I have come across this but would like to know if any one has any more details of Horace, I picked up from another site that the local Woking News and Mail on the 6th October 1916 ran the following article: ?Mr and Mrs Brotherwood of 1 Elm View Villas, Goldsworth Road, Woking have received news of the death, in action in France, of their son Pte H Brotherwood of the Heavy Section Machine Gun Corps. It is understood that Pte Brotherwood has been engaged with the famous tanks?

I will try and dig out more on Horace and why he may have been forgotten to be included on our local war memorial, if you have any thing else on Horace or the other two Woking men George Lloyd and Fred Saker would be interested to know. All the Best Kevin

Im just amazed at the ammount of info on a small site just amazing.Im just totally knocked out with The Great War and have many books covering many aspects of it I am an ex serving member who was fortunate to be involved in the 25th anniversary of the d-day landings and could see the ammount of following that had and still has With regards to WW1 its a job to know where to start looking when you arrive there hopefully with the ammount of books and maps i have it shouldnt be too hard

Hello there,

I am working on a history programme about the Royal Tank Regiment for the BBC. One point of focus for the documentary is the very first men in tanks at Flers. So, as this excellent site seems to be the font of all knowledge on the subject I'd very much like to have a chat with you about the programme.

A name I am particuarly interested in is Victor Huffam, who, as far as I understand, volunteered for HS MGC and served at Flers.
