Eddie was from from Tylestown in the Rhondda valley. Before the war he was a teacher at the local school and then a winding engineer at the local colliery. He fought in support of the New Zealand division on 15 September 1916. Later he served with 11 Coy and probably fought at Bullecourt, where the D Bn tanks were badly damaged. He was 25 years old when he was killed at Poelcapelle. The photograph, which was found by Susan Hall during her research into Dudley White, shows that Eddie initially served with the Motor Machine Gun Corps.
