Fenwick Styan's jacket

Posted by firsttankcrews on May 20, 2012 at 1:35 PM

Peter Scott has been in contact about Pte Fenwick Styan of C Company; Fenwick's tunic has survived and I have posted pictures of the jacket in the photo gallery.

Peter is interested in learning more about Fenwick; Simon Payne has confirmed that Fenwick served on with C Battalion and then, after it reroled on Whippets, with 3rd Light Tank Battalion eventually being appointed as a lance corporal.  I have also found, from his medal index card that he joined the MGC as late as 24 May 1916.  He also know that he was not released until May 1919; and this was as a result of wounds or sickness.

Peter is particularly interested in a small loop fitting under one shoulder strap - could this have been for a lanyard?

I am a grandson of Fenwick W. Styan. I can remember him saying that he was with the first tanks, but have little further information on his activities during the First World War. However, I have some information about his life in general and some photographs. I was pleased to find him today on this website and I would like to exchange information with anybody who is interested.
